The Loss Control team gives members an objective asessment of their assets, the policies and procedures they have in place and how they work together to identify and mitigate exposure to risk.

Report Fire Protection Impairments

As defined in NFPA 25, an impairment refers to a situation where a fire protection system or unit, or part of it, is not functioning properly, which could lead to the system failing during a fire. Impairments may be categorized as planned, emergency or unidentified, but all fire protection impairments must be reported to AEGIS Loss Control.

FAQs

Impairment: As defined in NFPA 850, NFPA 25 and NFPA 72, a condition where a fire protection system or portion thereof is out of service, and the condition can result in the fire protection system not functioning during a fire event. The type of fire protection impairment can be identified as one of the following:

Planned Impairment: A condition where a fire protection system or portion thereof is out of service due to work that has been planned in advance, such as modifications to the water supply or sprinkler system piping.

Emergency Impairment: A condition where a fire protection system or portion thereof is out of service due to an unexpected occurrence, such as a ruptured pipe or an operated sprinkler.

Unidentified Impairment: A condition where a fire protection system or portion thereof is out of service without being tracked, such as a system shut down for repairs and inadvertently left isolated, a system shut down without proper notification or a system shut down maliciously.
