Casualty Services

Focused on the third-party risks that AEGIS member utilities face.

Casualty Services

Casualty Services raises the bar on the industry’s dedication to public safety by providing support to utility member companies in water, natural gas, electricity or renewable energy. Our team collaborates with AEGIS members on Risk Assessments, Focused Services and on-site and virtual training.

Identify risks and improve safety outcomes on-site

It's important to get an objective review of operational practices and procedures to identify potential issues and improve safety outcomes for employees and the public. AEGIS works to conduct risk assessments for each member's operations every three years.

Our Risk Assessments are conducted by our senior Loss Control staff and typically take place over three days on site. During this time, we meet with key support, engineering and operational personnel, review reported claims and practices and delve into policies and programs.

  • Natural Gas Risk Assessments encompass ongoing monitoring, damage prevention, odorization, system inspections, call center practices and public safety awareness programs.
  • Electric Risk Assessments focus on design standards, system inspections, vegetation management, dams, joint pole use practices, wildfire mitigation, emergency call handling and public safety awareness programs.
  • Water Risk Assessments include evaluations of water distribution and treatment, damage prevention, leak detection, regulatory compliance, water loss control and public safety awareness programs.
  • Call Center Assessments focus on the utility’s procedures and practices for handling both routine and emergency calls.

Support for members when a risk reduction opportunity is identified

If a Risk Assessment identifies an operational or public safety risk, Loss Control’s Focused Services provides our members a senior AEGIS Loss Control professional for up to 10 days at no charge to help support implementation of risk reduction suggestions. Focused Services programs are available for electric, natural gas and water utility members.

As technical consultants, AEGIS Loss Control professionals are available to assist member companies in addressing a variety of utility operating and safety matters.
