AEGIS Loss Control is pleased to announce its latest webinar, Steam Turbine Maintenance Optimization, on Wednesday, September 10, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The integration of lower-cost renewable generation into the energy mix has changed the operational demands on existing steam turbines. As a result, conventional steam turbines now experience altered load profiles, increased cycling frequency, accelerated start-ups, and prolonged low-load operation. These factors collectively impact the maintenance intervals of these prime movers.
AEGIS Members must strategically manage steam turbine maintenance outages to minimize unnecessary downtime. However, delaying major steam turbine maintenance outages can lead to decreased efficiency and, in severe cases, result in unplanned repairs. To help optimize maintenance schedules, AEGIS has introduced an Equivalent Operating Hour (EOH) model, which is designed to improve the planning of these critical maintenance activities.
Who Should Attend
Corporate engineering planners, plant managers, risk managers and anyone involved in the operation, maintenance, and strategic management of steam turbines will benefit significantly from this webinar, which focuses on optimizing major steam turbine maintenance.
What is Covered
This webinar will examine the elements of an Equivalent Operating Hour model for operational steam turbines and discuss its potential benefits.
About the Presenters
Gregg Basnight manages the AEGIS Machinery Professionals team throughout the United States, providing technical consultation and support to Underwriting, Loss Control and Members as needed. With over 30 years of experience in boiler machinery risk assessment in the electric and gas power generation sectors, Gregg brings expertise in steam turbine, combustion turbine, and boiler technologies, delivering specialized guidance to Members on these topics.
Before joining AEGIS in 2005, Gregg spent 17 years at Hartford Steam Boiler, where he managed accounts, conducted risk assessments, performed loss investigations, and offered consulting services to organizations in the electric utility and heavy manufacturing industries. Prior to that, Gregg completed six years of active duty service in the United States Navy, specializing in main propulsion engineering.
Tim Maker supervises AEGIS Machinery Professionals and delivers Machinery Risk Assessment services to Members. With over 25 years of experience in power generation, he brings expertise in steam turbine and combustion turbine technologies, offering guidance on these subjects.
Before joining AEGIS, Tim worked for over 18 years at the General Electric Company in the Power Services Engineering organization. His roles included Service Engineer, Engineering Manager, and ultimately Principal Engineer. While Tim’s technical specialization is vibration analysis and machinery diagnostics, he also led initiatives aimed at improving outage scope and productivity, focusing on tools, parts management, and maintenance intervals for the GE LTSA fleet.
Earlier in his career, Tim held positions in operations and maintenance at Gaylord Container Corporation. He also served over 11 years in the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Power Program and completed an additional 13 years as a Combat Engineer (Heavy) in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Tim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University.
