Natural Gas Operator Training Programs

On-site and virtual options available
Supplemental presentations and workshops are available to support the member company’s training, safety and qualification programs. Sessions are customizable from 30 minutes to a full day for on-site and 30 minutes to a half day for virtual. Offerings include:

  • First Responder Program – The training will focus on protecting life, covering topics such as scene assessment, following procedures, defining a hazard, communication, case studies, industry lessons learned and the steps to take to secure the area when a structure is believed to be full of gas.
  • New Employee Program – This program covers AEGIS information, landmark cases, case studies, professionalism and documentation, setting the tone for a career in the natural gas industry.
  • Leak Investigation Program – Items covered include conducting a thorough investigation, company or industry procedures, inside and outside emergencies, documentation, case studies and avoiding the "Find and Fix Syndrome."
  • Fundamentals of Natural Gas Program – Connects the fundamentals to the everyday procedures followed by natural gas employees. Topics covered include natural gas, carbon monoxide and odorant.
  • Customer Premises Program – The training focuses on tasks performed in customer facilities. It covers the identification of code violations and hazardous conditions, documentation and the “duty to warn,” following procedures and communication. Additionally, the AEGIS Litigation Team provides input on practices that they encourage and support.
  • Call Center and Dispatch Operations Program (Natural Gas & Electric) – Topics include how to handle an emergency call and a review of company or industry procedures. Case studies and scenarios are used to reinforce procedures for attendees, enabling them to apply what they know.

Fire Protection Systems Training Program

Classroom and hands-on instruction on the various types of fire protection systems associated with typical power generation, natural gas transmission and processing facilities.

Electrical Safety Seminar

On-site, virtual and hybrid options available
This seminar is based on NFPA 70E, IEEE-C2 NESC. It is designed to teach power plant, substation and line personnel how to identify and avoid workplace electrical hazards and maintain a safe work environment.

There are several versions of this seminar, tailored to the role of the individual. Topics covered may include:

  • Addressing electrical perils
  • Electrical safety programs
  • Electrical safety qualification and controls
  • PPE guidelines
Workshops & Seminars

In-depth training on incident protocol and risk mitigation

Electrical Incident Investigation Workshops

On-site, virtual and hybrid options available
Tailored to meet your needs, our workshops can range from a four-hour basic workshop (for field operations, including servicemen, troubleshooters, and line supervisors) to a comprehensive 12-hour workshop (for claims investigators, safety staff, engineers, legal teams and line supervisors) on the proper investigation of electric contact and other electric utility incidents. Past workshops have covered a variety of topics, including:

  • Scope and purpose of conducting an incident investigation
  • Physiological effects of an electric contact
  • NESC clearance rules
  • Importance of measurements and photographs
  • Review of incident scenarios and investigation techniques

Natural Gas Incident Investigation Workshop

On-site, virtual, and hybrid options available
This six-hour workshop covers the essential planning required to investigate natural gas related incidents. Participants will learn the objectives of an investigation and the necessary actions to take upon arriving on scene.

AEGIS Loss Control professionals, who are uniquely qualified to support our members, give presentations at regional and national natural gas and electric association meetings. We address both risk management and operational matters.

Our perspective on energy industry risk allows us to offer realistic ideas and approaches to operating and maintaining safe systems.
