Transformers – Key Issues from the AEGIS Loss Control Perspective

Wednesday, Apr 01, 2020 | Online

Large transformers play a key role in the power generation industry.  Transformers can step up generated power from the energy facility and help distribute this power throughout the electrical grid.  Although these are some of the most reliable components within the electrical grid, they can be prone to mechanical and electrical failure resulting from a variety of factors, both internal and external.

This webinar will provide an overview of conditions found in large oil-filled transformers that can contribute to the likelihood of failure.  The discussion will focus on issues related to these conditions and possible solutions to help prevent failure.

The webinar’s presenter is Gregg Basnight, AEGIS Loss Control Machinery Manager.  Gregg manages the team of AEGIS machinery engineers located throughout the United States.  He also provides Machinery Risk Assessments and Focused Services, technical consultation, and assistance to AEGIS Underwriting, AEGIS Loss Control, and AEGIS members as requested.   Gregg has more than 29 years of machinery risk assessment experience in the electric and natural gas utility industry and specializes in steam turbine and boiler technology.  Before joining AEGIS in 2005, Gregg worked for 17 years with Hartford Steam Boiler as a Senior Specialist.  His responsibilities included providing account management, performing risk assessments as well as related loss investigations, and consulting for companies involved with the electric utility and heavy manufacturing industries. Prior to Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, Gregg was on active duty in the United States Navy for six years.
