Edward A. Crooke - AEGIS Board Member

It is with great sadness that we must inform you of the death of Edward A. Crooke, a long-time AEGIS director and great supporter of AEGIS.

Ed was elected to the AEGIS Board of Directors and Audit & Finance Committee in April 1987 and to the Executive Committee in October 1990. He was a driving force on the A&F Committee and, when the separate Investment Committee was formed in September 2007, he became a member of that Committee. He was a member and then Chairman of the Loss Control Committee from October 1990 to September 2007, and a strong supporter of Loss Control services for AEGIS members. At the time of his death, Ed was also a director of Constellation Energy, formerly Baltimore Gas & Electric Company.

Mr. Crooke was a gentleman in every sense of the word and we will miss his keen financial insight and his focus on the needs of the AEGIS membership.

2008 Policyholders' Conference

We were thrilled to see so many of you in San Francisco at our annual Policyholders' Conference. More than 1,260 attended the event this year which was the highest in the history of the Conference. We were particularly pleased that the number of member company representatives also was the highest in the history of the Conference.

Your comments on the evaluation forms were overwhelmingly positive regarding the program content, networking opportunities and family-friendly activities. We are also grateful for your constructive suggestions for improvement and will consider them carefully as we plan the 2009 PHC. Thanks for being part of this very successful conference.

Many of the general session and breakout presentations are posted on our website – including Bob Hartwig's presentation on the condition of the insurance industry and the popular presentations on ERM and PG&E’s approach to climate change.

During the general sessions, we introduced two new coverages tailored specifically for the emerging needs of AEGIS members.

Presentations about our new construction alliance with Liberty Mutual were enthusiastically received. The new construction program includes a complete range of occurrence-based primary and excess coverages for energy-related construction projects, including primary general liability and workers' compensation. Combined with AEGIS property capacity, we now provide complete construction capabilities, including multi-year coverages, OCIPs and wrap-ups. Coverage details are posted on our website. For more information, please contact George Keefe by e-mail or at 201.508.2797.

We also introduced a new alliance with Hiscox, a leader in underwriting cyber exposures, to provide privacy and cyber coverage specifically designed for utilities and energy companies. The policy indemnifies for liability and expenses resulting from a variety of incidents and the basic policy limit is $25 million, with additional limits available. Coverage details are posted on our website. For more information, please contact George Keefe by e-mail or at 201.508.2797.

We look forward to seeing you at the 2009 Policyholders' Conference which will be held in Boston from July 27 through July 30 at the Westin Copley Place.

New "Lessons Learned" video for natural gas utilities

A new training video for natural gas utility personnel, “The Find & Fix Syndrome,” has just been produced by the AEGIS Loss Control group. The video focuses on the proper actions gas company personnel should take when responding to gas-related emergencies and reminds them to concentrate on public safety. A preview will be available shortly on our website. In the meantime, for more information, or to request copies of this program, please contact Lucille Jackowski by e-mail or 201.508.2736.
