The next in our new series of loss control webinars will address the growing problem of copper theft at electric utilities throughout North America.
As worldwide demand for copper has risen over the past several years, supplies have tightened and prices have increased dramatically. As a result, copper is being recycled more often which, in turn, has created a market for used and stolen copper. Copper thieves have focused on electrical utilities and the theft problem is increasing costs as well as affecting service reliability and worker safety.
The presenters for this webinar will be Kevin Kolevar, Office Director, Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability, U.S. Department of Energy and Michael Peterson of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company Security Department. Participants will be invited to share their insights as well as discuss the extent of copper theft and the various steps being taken by electric utilities to mitigate the problem.
The webinar is scheduled for September 25 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Eastern. Please register now, and one week prior to the webinar, you’ll receive instructions for participating. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact Elisa Santos by e-mail or at 201.508.2745.
