In the power generation industry, avoidance is the best means of managing risk; however, this may not be practical given the vast amount of equipment necessary to produce safe, affordable and reliable power. Most power producers rely on effective loss control programs to help reduce the likelihood of losses from occurring and limit the severity of those that do.
This webinar will focus on developing and maintaining a robust loss control program for power generation operations. It will cover plant/human performance, reliability initiatives, inspection, testing and maintenance of risk mitigation systems, and approaches to partnering with operations and maintenance groups. These elements support the program’s ultimate goal of reducing potential losses and preventing significant business interruption events.
Greg Thoraldson, P.E., the Manager of Hazard Insurance at Xcel Energy, will present the webinar. Greg manages Xcel’s nuclear and non-nuclear property insurance programs, including the loss control program. He has a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota and holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation. Greg has more than 30 years of plant experience including nuclear, fossil and LNG plant system engineering positions, as well as six years of plant experience in the U.S. Navy’s nuclear submarine service.
