Hazard Awareness Training for Emergency Response Personnel

The Loss Control Division has developed three video training programs to help firefighters, police and emergency medical personnel properly recognize and avoid the hazards associated with electric and gas utility systems when responding to emergencies.

The programs outline the fundamentals of electricity and the origins of natural gas along with the basics of electric and gas utility systems. The electric program provides information on how to manage situations involving downed electric lines, vehicles and equipment energized by downed electric lines, and fires involving electric utility facilities. The gas programs cover procedures for properly responding to natural gas-related emergencies, such as leaking and burning gas, carbon monoxide, fires in industrial complexes, and liquid natural gas (LNG). The programs are available in DVD and VHS format and are intended to complement existing utility public safety education programs.
