AEGIS Member Meetings (formerly Regional Meetings) are Underway
Each year, we invite our members to convene in small group meetings hosted by AEGIS senior leadership. We take advantage of this valuable time together to engage in meaningful conversations about the challenges facing the industry and the ways in which we can collaborate on actionable solutions.
Previously held by region, this year our members have the option to attend in a way that works best for them. We kicked off the series with our first virtual meeting on December 9, where more than 45 member companies joined us as the leadership team provided an overview of AEGIS' strategy, underwriting, loss control and claims.
The series continued with a second virtual meeting on December 16 and will conclude with an in-person meeting in Phoenix on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:30 am MST.
Members should have received an email invitation to register to attend. If you missed the December 2 registration deadline and are still interested in attending, contact Heidi Gossett. Space is limited, but we'll do our best to accommodate you.
AEGIS Quick Tip: Keeping Sprinkler Heads Indemnified
If your sprinkler heads are over 20 years old, it's time to inspect, test or replace them. All sprinkler heads have a defined lifespan that corresponds to an indemnification period – the window during which a manufacturer or supplier agrees to cover certain liabilities or risks incurred from the product, such as defective materials or safety recalls. In our latest Quick Tip, we outline the current NFPA guidance on approved lifespan and testing frequency of sprinkler heads to ensure they remain within the indemnification period. Updated AEGIS Water Utility Resources Available
Reliable access to clean, potable water and water for community fire protection is often taken for granted. Ensuring we have access to water when and where we need it requires vigilance – rigorous inspection and maintenance protocols for treatment facilities and distribution systems are paramount. AEGIS has recently updated four of its water utility resources: Water Valve Inspection Maintenance Program, Hydrant Inspection/Maintenance/Repair Program: An Overview, Non-Revenue Water Audit Checklist, and Water Security Checklist. View these updated resources for more information on these important safety resources.

Claims Corner: Our Committees and Task Forces Discuss Nuclear Verdicts
At the recent quarterly AEGIS Risk Management Advisory Committee (RMAC) meeting, the committee focused on discussing what members can do to mitigate the risk of nuclear verdicts.
With median verdicts nearly doubling since 2019, the industry is at an inflection point where strategic change is critical. According to a recent article in Insurance Insider, featuring insights from Bob Tyson and Cayce Lynch, partners and trial attorneys at law firm Tyson & Mendes, nuclear verdicts are not random—they follow predictable patterns driven by plaintiffs' strategies designed to influence juror emotions. Insureds and insurers can mitigate this risk by modernizing defense and claims practices. Key actions insureds and insurers can take include adopting the "Core Four" framework: humanize defendants, accept responsibility without admitting liability, provide an early counter-anchor to plaintiff demands, and challenge pain-and-suffering narratives. Data shows that offering a counter-anchor can cut awards by half. Additionally, insureds and insurers should invest in proactive claims management and leverage AI tools to predict high-risk cases, while overcoming cultural resistance and data-sharing concerns.
Nuclear verdicts remain a critical issue that AEGIS actively monitors and provides guidance on. Please contact Mark Bluestein by phone at 201.508.2635 or via email to discuss strategies to protect your organization and reduce exposure.
